This page shows real LinkedIn profile before and after examples from clients of Love Your LinkedIn Profile, shared with their permission. Each pair compares the original headline, About section, Experience entry, banner, Featured section, Publications section, or Services section with the rewritten version, plus a short explanation of why the change works and what happened afterward. Nobody changed careers or gained new credentials; they stopped burying what they already had. Readers can start with a Profile Audit ($147), the self-paced Optimize course ($397), or the free profile cheat sheets.

Before & after

Same person. Same career. Same accomplishments. Completely different profile.

Nothing below was invented. No one changed jobs, went back to school, or suddenly became more impressive. They just stopped burying it.

Most people think their profile is boring because their career is boring.

It almost never is. You're too close to your own story to see it clearly, so you write down what you did instead of what it meant, and the result reads like a job description that escaped from an HR folder.

Below is what changes when someone else looks at it.

Real profiles, real people, shared with their permission.

Headlines

Your headline follows you everywhere. Every comment, every search result, every connection request. It is the single most-viewed line you will ever write, and most people spend eleven seconds on it.

Before

Independent Business Owner @ The North Shore Laser Center | Masters Degree

After

Serial Entrepreneur | Results-Driven | Proven Resilience (82 Days in the Wild)

Added: Moved degree to her name. Removed role and company name. Added "Serial" b/c she founded and owns multiple businesses. Added descriptors about what makes her successful. Added intrigue.

Patricia uses LinkedIn primarily for credibility, especially because she networks often. Her previously role sounded like an MLM scheme, but she's a founder of multiple businesses that are her own. We focused on the traits that have made her successful (also reflected in her banner) and added intrigue, because who wouldn't want to know what "82 Days in the Wild" means?

What happened: Right after we finished her profile, she flew to a workshop in Chicago. The connection requests started arriving while she was still travelling home, more than a dozen, all from that room. Something that had never happened before. Networking is easier, too. She had a meeting with someone who told her, "I read your LinkedIn profile. I feel like I already know you."

Before

Global Marketing and Communications Consultant | Digital Marketing | Content Creation | Copywriting | Nonprofits | Fundraising

After

Small Nonprofits, Powerful Stories | I will absolutely over-research your mission | My jokes are hilarious (according to me) 🤣

Added: Focus on her gifts and what makes nonprofits successful with their fundraising (stories). The second line explains her process in a silly, engaging way. The last section brings humor, so people know what they can expect.

Michelle's previous headline sounded like every other marketing professional out there and listed what she can do. Boring and uninspired, which is the exact opposite of what you want in a marketing professional. Her new headline, combined with her new banner, demonstrates trust, understanding, and a focus on what someone can expect when they hire her.

What happened: Within a few days of completing her headline, someone sent her a DM telling her that they love it. This wasn't someone she knew personally, so this is clearly resonating. It makes people laugh and think, and that's the best way to stay memorable. She's also received more connections and opportunities since her profile was done.

About sections

Your About section is your closing argument, not your introduction. It's the last thing a reader processes before deciding whether you're worth their time, and it should be doing work, not warming up.

Added: We removed the details that are better placed on his resume and in the experience. We highlighted his key differential traits and expertise that might not be obvious on the rest of his profile or his resume/CV.

We used this section to highlight Kevin's Red Thread in a way that makes the reader understand why he's so good at what he does and the value he adds to an organization. The format is deliberate (bullet points and short). Our goal was to demonstrate how he excels in the specific roles in which he works. You can probably infer how exceptional he is in his Experience section or his CV, but there's no benefit to keeping the reader guessing, so we tell them. It's that simple.

What happened: His network has grown and he has positioned himself as an expert in Professional Services and the customer journey on a global level. His credibility among his peers is warranted, and now it's reinforced by his LinkedIn profile.

After

In fourth grade, I tried making homemade smoke grenades in my backyard. An experiment that ended with ruined measuring cups, a small explosion, and some serious conversations with concerned adults. But I learned something crucial: curiosity without methodology is just chaos. That early lesson in turning ideas into reality shaped how I approach engineering today. I chose to major in Mechanical Engineering Technology because I thrive at the intersection of mechanical design and emerging technologies. What drives me isn't just solving problems; it's truly understanding them. I've developed a methodical approach: decompose any new concept into its fundamental components, master each piece, then synthesize them into practical applications. I’ve applied this to designing motor mounts for 6DOF flight simulators, architecting blockchain payment platforms at the IMF, and rapidly mastering emerging digital asset and blockchain protocols to self-fund my education. My unconventional path spanning mechanical design, blockchain research, entrepreneurship, and digital asset trading reflects my belief that engineering is one of the few fields where you can turn any idea into reality. I'm seeking opportunities in design, manufacturing, R&D, or product development where I can apply my technical skills while continuing to learn and build. If you're working on challenging problems that require someone who can quickly master new technologies and think across disciplines, let's connect. PS. I’m also certified in safety protocols, so I won’t blow anything up, unless you need me to. But safely.

Added: A story, why he studied what he did, and his approach with examples. Ended with a joke (that is fortunately true).

As a recent graduate, Habib doesn't have much to demonstrate his Red Thread, so we started with a great story that acts as both a hook and the catalyst to show that he's always been interested in his chosen field. The rest of this section offers proof that can be substantiated in his profile. The PS. sentence brings the reader back to the story, which is pretty funny and very true.

What happened: He received a job within a few weeks through his network. He also has considerably more connections than he did when we started the process.

Experience entries

This is where most profiles go to die. Twenty bullet points per role, every one of them a task, none of them a reason to hire you.

Before Patricia Cregier's old Experience entry: Owner, The North Shore Laser Center, with no description

Owner The North Shore Laser Center <blank>

After Patricia Cregier's new Experience entry: CEO & Founder with a full description of the business, its clients, locations, and branded media links

CEO & Founder The North Shore Laser Center NSLC is the premier destination for advance skin rejuvenation and aesthetic care in the Boston area. Our clients fly in from all over the east coast. With over two decades of expertise, the center blends medical precision with the art of beauty to create transformative, results-driven experiences. Each treatment is thoughtfully curated using customized protocols and complementary technologies designed to restore balance, confidence, and vitality. With locations in Wellesley, MA and Nantucket, MA, the NSLC also serves as the National Training Center for the Jett Plasma Medical Device, educating and mentoring practitioners nationwide in the latest non-surgical skin and plasma techniques. The center remains dedicated to combining innovation, luxury, and integrity in every aspect of care.

Added: Description of the business and who they serve. Branded the media links to other company resources (website, treatments, reviews, and socials) because the uniform color scheme catches the eye. Also created a company page.

As a founder, Patricia's focus is on growing her business, not what she can and has personally accomplished in a particular role. For that reason, the Experience entry needed to describe the business, their ideal clients, and locations. The live links to her website, treatments, reviews, and socials give her LinkedIn audience something to explore to better understand what she does. A completed company page reinforces branding and company legitimacy.

What happened: Her clients check her out on LinkedIn. Another one of her businesses has received orders from outside the US, which had never happened before.

Before Eden Rookstool's old Experience section: several entries with empty gray placeholder logos and mixed nursing and freelance roles
After Eden Rookstool's new Experience section: entries linked to company pages, nursing roles and consulting work separated clearly

Added: Connected each business to a company page, except where we couldn't, and rearranged and rewrote all the entries.

Eden's previous Experience section was full of Dreaded Gray Boxes (IYKYK) and conflated her role as a nurse and her freelance/consulting work. Her nursing experience needed to stand out (since she wanted to continue working in her field) to show her progression, and her freelance/consulting work needed to be consolidated under her own brand. This allows viewers who want to learn more about her journey as a nurse to follow that path, and those who want to know about her other work follow that one.

What happened: She has a new job better suited to her schedule and interests.

Before Habib Sy's old Experience entry: a bare internship title with no description
After Habib Sy's new Experience entry: a description of the project, who he worked with, what he accomplished, and an attached copy of his presentation

Added: We added a description of the project, who he worked with, and details about what he accomplished. We also attached a copy of the project he accomplished and presented to the panel. This allows the reader to peruse his project to learn more. As a side note, we also added the PDF of the presentation to his Projects section and went into more details about what he accomplished.

Habib's internship is extremely prestigious and has a less than 1% acceptance rate, and few report to Executive Director. Additionally, the topic is timely and complex, and this presentation demonstrates his ability to research and create solutions for complicated topics as well as his ability to present the information in a way that is understood by people who don't understand the technology. While he is a recent graduate, this process is relevant for any experience entry.

What happened: He felt great about how he was presenting himself to the world, and he got an engineering job through his network. He also started at 6 connections when we started and is now much higher than that.

Banners

The banner is the largest piece of real estate on your profile, and the default is a grayish-blue gradient that says "I can't be bothered." A random city skyline isn't much better, because now you've made a choice and the choice was "generic."

Services

If you sell services, LinkedIn gives you a whole section to say so. Almost nobody fills it in. The service tags are fixed by LinkedIn, so if your specialty isn't on their list, the media you attach does the talking: your deck, your fees, your proof.

Before

Blank.

After Leesa Ellis's new Services section: her Expert Self-Publishing Consultancy pitch deck attached as media, with slides for book services, fees, and ideal clients

Added: Her pitch deck and links

Leesa is a self-publishing book consultant, and the Services section is a great place to add her pitch deck for folks who are looking for her services, especially since the Services tags are fixed by LinkedIn and none of them are "Publishing." The pitch deck identifies her ideal clients, services, fees, and more, including links to testimonials and case studies.

What happened: Leesa got amazing feedback on her profile, and she learned that people kept coming back to it. She even had people make appointments to talk with her. One prospect told her it was obvious she was knowledgeable and that he felt like he could trust her, simply from looking at her profile. You can learn more about her services at 3ferns.com

Publications

Podcasts, articles, talks, press features. If it exists somewhere public, it belongs here, and almost nobody uses this section at all. Which is exactly why it stands out when someone does.

Before

Nothing. literally.

After Tami Garcia's new Publications section: a long list of media features, podcast appearances, and speaking roles

Added: 17 entries, including Ebony Magazine featuring her family as "The Coolest Black Family in America", podcast guest appearances, speaker roles, and authorship. Too long of a list to show full screenshot, so check out her LinkedIn page (Tami Dee Garcia).

Tami did not have her impressive list of media in a single public location, and the Publications section is a great place to do this. She didn't think they were that big of a deal or that many, but they are. Few people on the platform has as many outlets listed as she does. Since she's a founder, it adds credibility as she continues to build her brand.

What happened: When people look her up on LinkedIn, they recognize she's as impressive as she is. It reinforces her credibility as an experienced speaker for other panels and corporate events. This is especially important because her niche is very specific: helping people to reconnect with their heritage. You should check out her work (and her book) at www.tamigarcia.com/ She also has a podcast that's worth listening to.

Tami Dee Garcia, MBA · Reclaiming Heritage & Identity as an Act of Resistance

Before

Nothing.

After Eden Rookstool's new Publications section: eight media appearances listed with outlets and dates

Added: Eight media appearances

Eden was looking for a new nursing job and has amazing experience that she was not featuring but that would help her stand out among her peers, specifically her expertise in rare diseases and ability to translate those complex topics into language that is understood by non-medical folks.

What happened: Within a couple weeks of starting her profile (it wasn't even close to done yet), she received a job offer. One of the reasons was her documented media and speaking experience.
